Fire Marshal's Office

Fire or crime in progress? Call 911. The Fire Marshal's Office phone and email are for non-emergency business.
Who we are
We operate as an independent agency and work in close partnership with the Cockrell Hill Fire and Police Departments. Our office is at the Fire House, 1005 Phinney Avenue, alongside the Cockrell Hill Fire Department.
In 2018 the Fire Marshal's Office became a law enforcement agency licensed by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE). In 2019 it became a fire department regulated by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP).
The Fire Marshal and every deputy, Deputy Fire Marshals and Deputy Marshals alike, are sworn law enforcement officers. Our inspectors and investigators hold their TCFP certifications, including Arson Investigator for those who investigate fires. Our Code Enforcement Officer is licensed by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR).
Our work is split between two divisions. The Fire Marshal Division prevents fires and finds out how they start: inspecting businesses, reviewing construction plans, and investigating every fire in the city. The City Marshal Division supports the City and the Municipal Court by serving warrants, securing the courtroom, assisting police on patrol, and enforcing property maintenance codes. The Fire Marshal also serves as the City's Emergency Management Coordinator.
Fire safety education is a shared effort. We work cooperatively with the Cockrell Hill Fire Department so residents and businesses get one consistent message about staying safe.
To protect the lives and property of the citizens of Cockrell Hill through professional fire investigations, diligent code enforcement, proactive fire prevention education, and dedicated law enforcement services. We are committed to serving the community with integrity, ensuring public safety through a specialized and flexible approach to modern law enforcement.
What we do
We work through two divisions that cover a wide range of public safety needs.
